Are Pharmisutical companys bad?

Are they promoting study in only certain areas of medicine that are profitable to them. Are they causing many people to take many unneeded medications for problems that sometimes could be solved with more natural remedies. If so who is working to solve this problem? What changes will need to come about in order to stop this abuse of power?
