I am making stew, what is my next step?

I have pan fried all the meat and chopped up all my veggies but now what do I do? I need to cook all the veggies separate from the meat but in what...water? I need some kind of thickener like bouillon right? but when and how much and how long does all this need to cook for??? Help!
